Project Overview: Addressing the critical technical challenges and issues urgently requiring resolution in centralized compounding of intravenous medications, this project team has innovatively developed a library of intravenous medication review rules and an intelligent system for generating and reviewing parenteral nutrition prescriptions, thereby realizing a human-machine interactive prescription review approach that combines intelligent review with manual intervention. The team has also developed smart compounding equipment for intravenous medications along with information technology for compounding parameters, enabling intelligent compounding of hazardous drugs and bulk preparations of intravenous drug powders, thus minimizing occupational exposure risks, enhancing the efficiency of bulk drug compounding, and ensuring standardized compounding techniques and consistent quality of finished infusions. Additionally, the team has created labeling and sorting equipment and technologies for intravenous infusions, significantly improving the efficiency of labeling and sorting processes. Domestically, the team has proposed and established a non-invasive, rapid on-site inspection technique based on the color, clarity, visible particulates, and Tyndall effect of finished infusions, guaranteeing the quality of these products. Furthermore, the team has developed control technologies and standards for the physical stability and compatibility of finished infusions, leveraging the Tyndall effect, changes in turbidity and standard values, as well as changes in color and standard values, to guide safe clinical drug use. The team has achieved a series of original breakthroughs, including one invention patent, 20 utility model patents, four local standards issued by Anhui Province, two monographs published by People's Medical Publishing House, one planned textbook edited by the University of Science and Technology of China, and one expert consensus document. The team has also obtained five computer software copyrights. In total, the team has published four SCI papers, 21 core papers indexed in the Chinese National Library Database, and 16 papers included in statistical databases. The team has organized numerous national and provincial academic conferences and continuing education courses to promote the application of these project outcomes: it has hosted six national training sessions for prescription review competency under the Clinical Rational Drug Use Special Committee of the China Medical Education Association; co-organized two academic conferences on intravenous medication compounding in Anhui Province; conducted nine training workshops on prescription review skills for hospital pharmacists in Anhui Province; and organized the first Anhui Provincial Competition for Pharmacy Prescription Review and Prescription Commentary Skills. As a result, the team was awarded the "Group First Prize" for pharmacy prescription review skills and honored with the title "Anhui Province Worker Pioneer Award." The team was also recognized with the Third Prize of the Anhui Province Science and Technology Progress Award in 2023. One article reporting the team’s technological achievements in intravenous medication compounding was featured in the Health News. From 2020 to 2022, the cumulative sales revenue from smart compounding, smart labeling, and smart sorting equipment reached 159.66 million yuan, and these technologies have been adopted by over 300 medical institutions across China, including those in Anhui, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Sichuan, Jiangsu, and Henan provinces, yielding significant social benefits and promising application prospects.
